Directors' Notes

My love for music began at a young age, but being introduced to theater was a game changer. Auditioning for my first show in fourth grade at BDACT got me hooked.

Have you ever heard the saying “It’s like trying to herd cats?” Well, that’s an easy job compared to directing an improv team…I imagine…I’m not the director…I’m one of the cats.

Experiencing a spectacle like Shrek The Musical at BDACT this year is a treat for the senses. Large cast. Bright colors. A variety of textures and locations. Numerous songs, both loud and quiet. Plenty of dancing. Moving stage pictures and opportunities for the audience to laugh, to feel sadness and happiness, and everything in between.

The real magic isn't what happens on opening night; it’s what is called the "growth mindset" journey that happens behind the scenes.

How do I pick a show? That’s a tough question... This year, the story is what drew us in.

Right now it's time to get yourself prepped for an audition of your own. We have opportunities for many different types of people. (That includes YOU.) I'll take these in chronological order of their performance dates. Open your calendar, ready your pen, and follow along.
