This time of year is often known for leprechauns and basketball tournament-related “March Madness.”  But this season at BDACT is more like, “March Magic!”  One of the joys of stepping through the doors of our Fine Arts Center is experiencing the excitement of live performances.  That excitement takes many forms within these walls, including but not limited to, music, children’s theatre, and laughter.  Our schedule for this month combines all three of these into an unforgettable tapestry of pure joy. Hence, “March Magic!”

Within the final week of February I was able to walk the halls of our Fine Arts Center, witnessing and enjoying the sights and sounds of live music being performed, sets being built, the stage being painted, improv techniques being honed, and the always delightful images of children rehearsing for upcoming performances.  Everyone is smiling. There is a nervous but joyful anticipation as we ready shows for our families, neighbors, and friends to enjoy. (This really is a magical place…)

We kick off the month with the high-energy bluegrass sounds of local area band, The MilBillies, on March 8.  This evening will keep your toes tapping and your spirits high. Our showcase performances of local bands are becoming a very popular way to shake off the winter chill.  (The previous concert in this series, The WhiskeyBelles, was thoroughly enjoyed in February by a large crowd of enthusiastic local music lovers. Don’t miss this final concert of our Fire and Ice series for 2025!)

Our March 2025 stages will be showcasing not one, not two, but THREE children’s performances.  Beginning with One Voice Children’s Chorus (March 9) who will take us on a safari of songs sure to make you smile. The middle schoolers acting class, known here as ActingUp!, will sprinkle fairy dust on the Fine Arts Center with their comedic performance of Goodnight Princess on March 15. Then treat yourself to a new twist on a familiar story, as our elementary school students, Class Act, show you what happens when the big bad wolf meets The Thirty-Three Little Pigs on March 29.

Looking over that line-up makes my head spin when I consider all the work going into making these shows possible for you to enjoy.  I would call that a busy and wonderful month of entertainment.  But we couldn’t stop there!  If watching grown ups turn your audience suggestions into hilarious performances is more your style, we’re delighted to invite you to the return of our in-house improv troupe, Mission: Improv-able, March 13 - 16. Here is where YOU participate in creating the show. This comedy tour de force takes place in our intimate Encore Hall, and seating is limited, so don’t miss out!

I’m going to include one more show into this magical line-up, even though it’s technically not in March!  April 3 - 6 we proudly present the world premiere of a brand new play from playwright Deb Meyer, Cobble Me This.  This is a very funny and quirky new take on the Shoemaker and the Elves tale.  Filled with new characters you’ll fall in love with, woven together seamlessly with whimsical dialogue, your magical springtime at BDACT will be complete.

Yes, I know there will most likely be a few more cold temperatures, snowy roads, and maybe even some not-so-pleasant wind chills before we finally say goodbye to winter.  But summer will be here before you know it.  When that happens, the amazing and heart-warming performances I’ve just described will already be gone. That’s what makes live performances so special.  You’ll never get the chance to see them again once they’re gone. Each performance is a unique experience for those who are in attendance. If you want to add some real joy to the beginning of spring, we’ve got you covered.

So, if winter is getting to you, no need to feel down. Come join us at the BDACT Fine Arts Center this spring and experience the magic of story-telling, laughter, music and don’t forget, adorable children.  There’s no better place to be!  Please visit our NEW website at www.bdact.org, or give me a call at 920-885-6891. As always, I look forward to hearing from you, or better yet, seeing you at the show!
