Auditions will be open call style and held at the BDACT Fine Arts Center (117 West Maple Ave).
Auditioners should prepare a short monologue that demonstrates their personality and comedic abilities, along with a song they enjoy that shows off their voice. A verse and chorus are sufficient; a full song is not required.
Auditioners may also be asked to read selections from the script, participate in a group activity, or perform simple movement. This production relies heavily on physical comedy, exaggerated characters, ensemble storytelling, and a willingness to fully embrace ridiculous situations. Bold choices are encouraged!
Rehearsals will begin in August.
No one is required to become a zombie, but we are open to it if you are a method actor.
Anyone interested in reviewing a digital script before auditions may email Director Enda O. Breadon at [email protected].
Get ready for a show that is part zombie horror, part alien-invasion mystery, and entirely unhinged!
Zombie Temps from Outer Space: The Musical is a hilarious musical comedy about the difference between earning a higher education and facing the actual economy waiting for you after college. It is a physical comedy, an alien-invasion mystery, a zombie horror story, and a biting indictment of corporate culture—all presented in a ridiculous, “cheap-on-purpose” style reminiscent of Monty Python.
David has just completed his master’s degree in political science. Not knowing what else to do, he begins temping and receives his first assignment at the mysterious ZDE Corporation.
There, he works alongside four other highly educated temps who have recently completed master’s degrees in communication, biology, electrical engineering, and sports psychology. Their job is stapling. Only stapling. For the entire day.
Their boss, known only as Overlord, gives vague and contradictory instructions and does not seem to understand even the most basic rules of human interaction. Also wandering through the office are a shadowy janitor and a bike messenger who functions as both a prophet and oracle for the temps.
When David discovers that the free office coffee is turning employees into mindless automatons with limited motor control—and the FBI begins to suspect his boss might not be human—the temps must find a way to stop ZDE from taking over the Earth. David must also overcome his shyness and finally tell Tammy, the receptionist, how he feels about her.
Audiences who enjoyed Lumberjacks in Love will feel right at home with this wonderfully strange parable about young professionals, corporate culture, and the hopelessness of having a college degree with no job prospects.
Zombie Temps from Outer Space: The Musical contains physical comedy, absurd situations, corporate satire, zombie horror, alien conspiracies, romantic awkwardness, and some of the strangest office coffee ever served.
