About the Show

From the twisted mind of popular Southern playwright Marki Shalloe comes this comedy about the thin line between depression and hope. Four Glasses delves into the complexities of alcoholism through a theatrical lens. This play discusses the following topics: strong language, alcoholism, child abandonment, generational trauma, sexual violence, pornography and suicide.

About the Auditions

  • Experienced actors and beginners age 18 and over are encouraged to audition. 

  • Those auditioning will read lines from the play with another actor(s). Any prepared monologue is welcome and will be heard (2 minutes max). 

  •  No one is expected or required to prepare a monologue.

  • A digital copy of the script is available for anyone who would like to read it in advance by emailing the producer. No memorizing is expected for the audition.  

  • Do you want to audition, but the audition dates don't work for you? Email the producer; we might be able to accommodate.  

  • Actors will be working with an Intimacy Choreographer throughout the rehearsal process.

  • The first rehearsal is July 28. Rehearsals will be on weekday evenings and occasional weekends.

  • Email the producer with any questions you may have.  

To Prepare

Complete the online BDACT audition form,

Print and fill out the conflict calendar beforehand.

Review and sign the Four Glasses Content Disclosure Form.  You may opt to print it and bring it with you, or fill out a paper copy provided at auditions.

NOTE: This show has an age guideline of 18 and older to ensure performers can fully engage with the material and roles available in this show.

Character Descriptions

PADRAIG (he/him/his, 40s to mid-60s): Male lead, Irish bartender, dive bar (accent optional)  

FRANCE (she/her/hers, 30s to late 40s —10 or more years younger than Padraig):  Female lead, alcoholic mess, recounting old memories

GIRL WITH THE BRAIDS (she/her/hers, college age): Female teen, France's imagining of a porn star

MOTHER (she/her/hers 40s to early 50s): Single parent of France, abusive, alcoholic 

BIG MOTHER (she/her/hers, 60s): Single parent of Mother, grandmother of France, abusive, alcoholic

VIRGIL (he/him/his, teenager — should be performed by actor in their 20s or 30s who is playing younger): Neighbor boy during childhood memories, self-proclaimed sexual expert
